2011-07-26The 20th (“porcelain”) anniversary of Salus International
Anniversary is a big word. Twenty years ago, Aleksander Żurek, president of Salus International, did not even dare to dream that he was going to witness the 20th anniversary of his company. On 25 June 2011, the Three Ponds Valley leisure area was the venue for the Family Picnic dedicated to the employees and business partners who made the company anniversary possible.
“At that time, I had no idea that my small company was going to expand and become an important player on the regional level, and then on the industry level,” said the president about his company’s beginnings. A total of more than 1,200 people attended the event, including employees, representatives of over 60 open pharmacies, over 30 hospitals and 22 pharmaceutical companies, several representatives of pharmaceutical chambers as well as trade and regional media, along with their families and friends. Among the guests were Dr. Jerzy Łazowski, member of the Supreme Pharmaceutical Council, Janina Pawłowska, MPharm, hospital pharmacy coordinator for the Polish Pharmaceutical Chamber, and her husband, Prof. Maciej Pawłowski.
The ceremony began with a speech delivered by president Aleksander Żurek, who expressed his gratitude to employees and business partners, stressing that the existence of his company is based on a symbiosis between employees and customers. He highlighted that this was a celebration for all the people he mentioned, because they made this beautiful 20th anniversary possible. On behalf of Dr. Grzegorz Kucharewicz, chairman of the Supreme Pharmaceutical Council, Dr. Jerzy Łazowski read a congratulatory letter prepared for this anniversary. Following the official speech and congratulations from the representatives of pharmaceutical chambers, the president invited 62 people to the stage, including distinguished employees, business partners and representatives of pharmaceutical chambers, and awarded them the “Friend of the company” title for their initiative, dedication, loyalty, diligence and perseverance. To commemorate this friendship and partnership, they received porcelain apples. Porcelain is, of course, a special material – unique in character, well-known and produced for many centuries. Meanwhile, the apple symbolizes health and vitality.
After the ceremonial anniversary toast, the stage was taken over by 118 colorfully dressed members of the Stanisław Hadyna ŚLĄSK [Silesia] Folk Song and Dance Group, who sang the anthem of Salus International composed by Adam Ziemianin, a poet from Kraków. It was not a coincidence that the picnic began with their performance – the goal was to highlight the company’s roots in the Silesian region and to give the entire event a Silesian flavor. That is why, the artists prepared a special performance for this ceremony, presenting centuries of Silesian folklore, whose unique nature is conveyed through distinctive rhythms, expressions, melodic themes and the lyrics of each song. This part of the program ended with songs titled “Karolinka”, “Szła dzieweczka” and “Hej, koło Cieszyna,” dedicated to the employees of Salus International from Silesia, while the aria titled “Wielka sława to żart” was a tribute to the employees from the Zagłębie region as it was frequently sang by Jan Kiepura from Sosnowiec.
The second part of the program prepared by the ŚLĄSK [Silesia] group was a colorful journey across the European Union that showed its cultural diversity. Songs titled “Wien, Wien” and “Sprzedana narzeczona” were dedicated to the previously awarded international pharmaceutical corporations, GEROT and EBEWE, who have been cooperating with Salus from day one. The European part of the program also had some Polish national elements. Songs titled “Krakowiak” and “Tańcuj, tańcuj” were dedicated to domestic pharmaceutical companies: Aflofarm, Aspen Distribution, ASA, ICN Rzeszów, Laboratoria Natury, Oleofarm, Polfa Tarchomin, Polpharma, and Unia Spółdzielnia Pracy.
The ŚLĄSK [Silesia] Folk Song and Dance Group delighted the guests with singing, dancing, outstanding choreography and beautiful costumes. After the performance which revealed Silesian spirit, the participants were taken to the present day when the Austria-based BIGSMILE PRODUCTIONS ensemble led by Katrin Zurek presented modern dance. Moments later, dozens of picnic guests’ children joined the ensemble on stage.
As every year, kids had plenty of attractions to choose from: performances, educational games, inflatable toys, etc. Picnic games were hugely popular throughout the day.
“I hope the family nature of this picnic helps the pharmacists and doctors forget about the burden of responsibility for human health and life for just one day. It is my desire to give them and their families the pleasure of participating in a high-quality cultural event, during which they can discuss professional problems with their colleagues or make plans for the future in a friendly atmosphere, even together with their competitors. During these creative moments important ideas are born concerning the ways to survive the economic crisis,” summed up Aleksander Żurek.
The guests enjoyed themselves almost until midnight, accompanied by Wiesław Murzański’s music and excellent cuisine.
